I ran into this problem the other day when trying to create a smart object. I solved it with the Change Server option in the K2 object browser.  More details at: http://rdacollab.blogspot.com/2008/07/cannot-connect-to-host-server-really.html   Hopefully this helps someone else out.

In the end I removed everthing and started from scratch.   Not a solution but the only way I could get it working.
