Secondary Data Source Validation
SmartObjects are an integral part of K2 blackpearl. As such there is often the need to incorporate them into InfoPath forms. When a SmartObject is integrated into an InfoPath form, it is done so via an InfoPath secondary data source. Any secondary data source, not just K2 SmartObjects, within InfoPath do not have the ability to leverage the simple and robust InfoPath control validation. This document will discuss a way to integrate and validate the SmartObject secondary data source.
I have include a zip file with a PDF document, InfoPath form and a SmartObject. You should be able to preview the the InfoPath form by right clicking on the file and select design and then preview. This will allow you to view all the rules, data validation and conditional formatting. You will not be able to submit the form without publishing the SmartObject and re-integrating the SmartObject back into infopath.
