Friday I attended SharePoint camp at the offices of Clarity Consulting (www.claritycon.com)
There were well over 100 people there with only about 120 registered. I have been involved with many events planning on other wise and for events like this you can count on a 25% drop out rate of registered attendees. To have this low of a dropout rate is amazing, and evidence of the high level of interest in SharePoint. Listening in to eh talk in the beginning, they were going over what subjects were of highest interest and would write them on the board to be talked about and presented on. Each person got to raise questions and issues they wanted to have a "break out" session on. Funny enough the first dozen or so people were all questioning…..WORKFLOW. Amazing. There was some interest in search, and the BDC and using InfoPath…In Workflow. Someone in the audience was asking about when to use K2 and no we did not pay him to ask. So the presenter said. I thought someone from K2 was here, is anyone from K2 here? Tmil and I raised our hands. And WAMMO we were asked to have a workflow breakout session, and be available to answer questions.
Now this just blew me away, I signed up for this event to attend and see what other people are doing with SharePoint, maybe even learn some stuff on it. And now I am presenting. So Tmil and I got our breakout sessions and answered peoples questions talking about workflow, and why someone would use K2 and not default out of box workflow or workflow in SharePoint designer. I got to get up in front of people and talk about K2 blackpearl. Afterwards I got to reflect on this event and remember how much I love presenting and talking to people about technology. It was very exciting to once again have the chance to present no matter how the opportunity came up. I thank Tmil for the opportunity to take over and get up there.
I had a great time at the event and got to touch base with some of the community. I got to talk with some old friends from http://www.neudesic.com/Main.aspx and www.us.sogeti.com both of which ran sessions and answered questions. In talking with each of them during breaks they too have seen an EXPLOSION in MOSS and Workflow requests. I guess that is not surprising as it is a common theme throughout the past year. MOSS is taking off like a rocket, and so is workflow. It's going to be an exciting year.
