Video killed the radio star

First of all sorry for the old song reference, I hope it does not stick in your head all day now. But it is an appropriate title as you will soon see. It is amazing how a medium can change or at least affect culture so deeply. I believe we are all seeing this again with the internet. Sites like YouTube, facebook, and others are really changing the way people interact. They are empowering people to do things their way.

I have a friend that is doing something along the lines of new media and doing a great job of it. He and a friend have started an internet radio show. You can take a look at www.whatthebuc.net

I went through and watched some of the content yesterday and I was pretty darn impressed. So I started poking around the internet looking for similar places. I was shocked at the number of sites and shows. Literally it seemed that if there is a team, there are at least 2 internet radio shows talking about it. It seems that people are tired of hearing shows about what other people think they want to hear and are making shows geared more towards the fans. Each of these shows can take calls, or questions via email. Some even have live chat built into the website, really very cool stuff. Of course they also have the obligatory downloadable podcasts for offline listening and or viewing. But I think it's the online stuff that is the hit. The local news even did a story on their show.

Take a look around at some of the cool stuff out there.

I believe they use http://www.shoutcast.com/ and http://www.mogulus.com/ to do a good portion of the show but I could be wrong there.

Some other cool sites

I am so impressed it makes me want to start a community radio show. We could address either IT topics or more BPM process topics. Or heck maybe both. It could be a ton of fun, we could have special guests, interview people, have people come on and talk about projects they have been on and successes they have had. I know they have regular radio shows around here on such things as ask the IT guy. They will get questions like how can I get better quality prints from my printer and how can I clean a virus etc. But for the REAL business or IT problems there is no radio show like that. This could be the next best thing. What do you think should we start Underground Radio?

If you do some searching out there you will see that it is really easy to get started and quite inexpensive, which means ANYONE can do it. That's why I think the title is a good one, because stuff like this is going to really start to affect both TV, and Regular radio.
